The Idaho Junior Steelheads just completed a 4 game, WSHL series sweep, of arch rival Fresno Monsters this past weekend in McCall and Boise.

On Friday, Feb 12th   at the Manchester Ice & Events Centre in McCall, Fresno took an early first period lead before Assistant Captain Nate Stanley tied it up at 9:34 of the third period. Patrick Anderson potted the game winner in dramatic fashion with only 38 seconds remaining on the clock.

Saturday night the Steelheads rallied twice from two goal deficits and local Idaho product Justin Videen scored his second goal of the game at 3:38 of overtime to put Idaho on top 6-5….and thrilled a standing room only crowd of 800 McCall fans.

Sunday for the third night in a row, Idaho fell behind 2-0 and stormed back to post a 6-3 victory. Six different Steelhead players all contributed single tallies.

Monday, at Qwest Arena, the two teams played in front of a Presidents Day matinee crowd of over 2500 fans. This time, Idaho took a 1st period 2-0 lead before Fresno fought back to even up the score midway through the third period. At the 38 second mark of overtime, Gabe Gollete scored a power play marker allowing the Steelheads to complete this 4 game sweeps undefeated.

Happy New Year to all of our fans, families and friends. We have made it through our first half of this inaugeral season and I am very proud of what the team has accomplished. My staff and I are looking forward to the continued success of the team. Thank you for all of your support!

San Diego Gulls Coach Comments:
I would like to take this opportunity to thank the Idaho Jr. Steelheads organization and share with the rest the league the wonderful experience John Olver and his staff provided the San Diego Gulls this past weekend.  From the hotel accommodations, all the team meal preparation, the warm hospitality offered up by everyone, from the score keepers to the ticket takers, the experience was truly first class.  I would also like to touch on the McCall leg of the trip, especially if anyone has any reservations about that part of their weekend to Boise.  It is well worth the additional 100-mile drive.  The facility is beautiful, and once again the people were incredibly gracious and accommodating.  The game environment was what I believe embodies a Jr. Hockey game experience.  The crowd was large and loud and the atmosphere festive and reminiscent of a professional minor hockey league game.  Win or lose, the trip was a great experience for our players.  Boise has truly raised the bar for an overall junior hockey weekend experience and I really hope we can match this past weekend’s events when the Idaho Jr. Steelheads come to San Diego.

Sincerely,

SAN DIEGO GULLS
