The Idaho Hockey Foundation, Inc. and the BYAHA/Junior Steelheads, is pleased to announce the formation of a New Junior “A” Tier III Team to Idaho. Beginning this Fall, 2009, our franchise, The Idaho Junior Steelheads will compete in the Western States Hockey League (WSHL) Western Division.
The WSHL is a Developmental League for Junior “A” Tier III players ages 16-20 who are actively and ultimately aspiring to play at the collegiate or professional levels of hockey.
Obviously, we are very excited about bringing this caliber of play to Idaho; but, more importantly, what this means for the continued development of youth hockey in the Treasure Valley and Idaho is going to impact our state for years to come. Adding a Junior “A” Tier III team will complete the BYAHA hockey development pyramid for Squirts (age 9) through to Juniors (age 20). This effort is the result of an on-going collaboration between the Idaho Hockey Foundation, Inc. dba Idaho Junior Steelheads, BYAHA dba Junior Steelheads, the ECHL Idaho Steelheads, Boise City’s Idaho Ice World (IIW), Manchester Ice & Event Centre in McCall and the local hockey communities in Boise and McCall.
Former Idaho Steelheads Coach, John Olver, has agreed to coach our Junior “A” team. Coach Olver has over 25 years of Coaching/General Manager/Ownership experience, including ownership and league formation of the WCHL which is now the Western Division of the ECHL.
